Neurofeedback is a safe and effective treatment that tackles the root of the problem by training the brain to better regulate itself. Neurofeedback helps you retrain your brain by targeting abnormal brainwave patterns that contribute to certain behaviors and thoughts. Extensive clinical research over the past 40 years has shown this to be a highly effective therapy technique for a variety of mental health conditions. Before starting your neurofeedback training, we perform brain mapping.
What is Brain Mapping?
At The Joy & Wellness Center, we work to understand what is happening in the brain, where it is happening and how problematic the issue is. We do this in several ways, including by measuring your brain health, and through the use of a brain mapping technique known as a qEEG brain scan. Quantitative Electroencephalography (qEEG or Quantitative EEG) is an objective assessment tool used to measure the brain’s electrical activity (brainwaves) in the cerebral cortex and is helpful in diagnosing ADD/ADHD, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and more. While typical brain imaging techniques such as MRIs, CAT scans and x-rays measure brain structure, an EEG measures brain activity.
The scan produces a series of visual maps that are analyzed in order for your licensed clinician to devise an individualized neurofeedback treatment plan. Subsequent brain scans are conducted every 1-2 months to monitor progress and measure results.

Treatment then focuses on helping you train specific areas of your brain that are dysregulated by using reward-based learning principles. Typically, clients will watch a movie, listen to audio, or play a video game that rewards their brain for achieving the desired behavior, such as producing more relaxation or increasing attention and focus.
What is the Process?
A non-invasive EEG cap or wearable device is worn on your head to record brain activity. After your brain’s activity is recorded, the computer generates a series of “visual maps” that are compared to published databases to check for deviations from normal patterns and evaluated as to whether it contains any patterns known to be associated with clinical conditions like ADHD, anxiety, addiction and depression.
We offer remote neurofeedback!
We offer in-office and remote Neurofeedback. Our in-office neurofeedback is completed thru our BrainCore software and technology with the assistance of our neurofeedback technician. The in-office neurofeedback training is typically 2-3 visits per week and each appointment lasts 30-45 minutes. Training will be around 30 sessions per area that we're focusing on based on your brain's response to training.
Our remote neurofeedback offering can be done at home using a wearable device and a mobile app while your clinician monitors your brain activity and progress remotely. By downloading the Myndlift app and using a Muse headset, you’ll be able to train remotely with close clinical supervision from our team.
