A vital part of quality treatment is the diagnostic evaluation process. Sometimes it can be hard to hear that we have a mental health diagnosis but this helps our providers know how to help more effectively and what recommendations to make for on-going treatment.
The process of a diagnostic evaluation begins with you filling out questionnaires about your concerns, symptoms, and mood. Then you will meet with your provider to discuss your concerns, along with several aspects of your life, such as your family life, work, school, social life, and your mental health history.
As a part of the diagnostic process, you'll also complete a cognitive performance assessment to assess your current level of brain health and to keep track of your progress as treatment progresses.
At The Joy & Wellness Center, we perform Diagnostic Evaluations for both clients seeking on-going therapy and for individuals who have been referred for a Diagnostic Evaluation by their medical provider or from another source, such as for pre-surgical evaluations or fitness-for-duty evaluations.
What is Psychological Testing?
Psychological Testing involves using a series of tests (called test batteries) to assess different areas of mental and emotional well-being. At the Joy & Wellness Center, we perform psychological testing to assess for intellectual and memory difficulties, personality concerns, ADHD, learning disorders, academic accommodations, and career interests.
What is the difference between Cognitive Performance Assessments and Psychological Testing?
While technically a type of psychological testing, cognitive performance assessments help measure your current brain health using quick and fun tasks to check how your symptoms are impacting your memory and cognitive skills. You can also be retested regularly to track progress.
Psychological testing is used when more comprehensive data is needed, and is often very lengthy. This type of testing requires the use of several types of tests to measure your general cognitive abilities (IQ), individual aspects of memory, cognitive achievement, and personality traits, and cannot typically be done multiple times each year.
